The Regional Youth Board will be starting something new for 2017 -- NYUC Newsletters! These newsletters will serve as friendly reminders for upcoming events as well as important information from DC's and our RS. We hope to publish one newsletter per month. Bear with us as these first couple of months will be slow without a lot of activities going on but we hope you still peruse the newsletters for important reminders and updates.

Here's the January Newsletter

I am so very pleased to announce that this year's winner of the Barbara Meyer trophy (and silver plate), awarded annually to the active NYUC region Pony Club-er with the best score in any division at the Fitch's Corner horse trials, is the immensely-talented pair of Julia Marrinan of Shetucket Valley Pony Club and Gunni, who also took home the blue ribbon in the Novice Rider-A division. Adding only a Stadium rail to their Dressage score of 29.00, Julia and Gunni finished with a final score of 33.00. Finishing second and third, respectively, in this year's competition for the Trophy were Lizzie Chamberlin from Millbrook Pony Club (competing in the Junior Training division) and Teagan Lapuk from Granby Pony Club (competing in the Junior Novice division).

The Trophy was established by Millbrook Pony Club in 2013 to honor the memory of longtime MPC leader and Millbrook resident Barbara Scott Meyer, and is intended to inspire future generations of young equestrians to embrace the values of excellence in horsemanship that so marked her loving dedication to Pony Club and its ideals for many, many years. The splendid bronze Trophy was commissioned by MPC from local artist extraordinaire Peggy Kauffman.

Presenting the Trophy to Julia on behalf of Millbrook Pony Club was last year's winner, Lizzie Chamberlin, assisted by current MPC member Erica Doyle, as well as Barbara's son, Allen Meyer.

As to be expected, the three NYUC riders did the Region proud, and Julia is to be congratulated for coming out on top in what was a very spirited, friendly, and extremely close competition that wasn't decided until the final ride on Sunday afternoon. It was also hot as blazes all weekend, and Gunni, Bean and Blue, stablemates for the weekend, never let up. God Bless the Horses.

Pictured are Julia receiving the Trophy from Lizzie, with Erica standing by with Julia's silver plate. By tradition, the presentation ceremony followed the awarding of the Open Preliminary ribbons, a parade of classic automobiles, an exhibition of the Millbrook Hounds and the annual Fitch's Corner award.

Please email the Webmaster if you have feedback, additions, or items that need to be corrected.
